PS3 Motion Control: Top 5 Hardcore Titles We Want
![]()
Now most of the titles below are from the Nintendo Wii. There are some who don’t want to see ports from the Wii, and rather see Sony use the PS3 Magic Wand for new content. Although I agree, I don’t see why titles that show us what the direction of motion control content can be on the platform not be showcased? These are titles that in many respects have suffered from the casual gamer phenomenon. There is nothing wrong with the Wii, but the similarities, forward push of the PS3 magic wand can take these games to a new level. Especially if developers take a the view that the system should be pushed. These games would find a perfect audience on the PS3. As well as show developers how to make better motion controlled games on the platform so it ushers it’s own titles. These titles should live beyond the Wii. These 5 hardcore games would be a welcome. Leave a line, and let us know what you think.
Sega’s Mad World

Clearly this is the right game on the wrong platform. The Nintendo Wii unfortunately has not done for hardcore gaming, and motion control that it has done for casual gamers. Sega test this theory along with others to no avail. It’s a shame that a game like “Mad World” didn’t bring more ‘gamers’ to the table for the Wii. Not to say that many didn’t take the plunge, but the relative no hoopla concerned me. Sega took their time and crafted a title that does so much right, and still it didn’t blow up like it should have. Well I say Nintendo’s loss should be the PS3’s win. An updated, more precise, and overall better “Mad World” can be made on the PS3 using Sony’s motion control. It would serve notice that the system has the hardcore audience and they are ready for rich content. “Mad World” would serve that purpose proudly. Instead of Sega being so determined to crack the core gamer on the Wii, I say cut your wins/loses hit the PS3 fast, and hard.Make it happen Sega, and Sony…
Red Steel 2

Few publishers, let alone developers are anything like Ubisoft. A company that I watched grow up, and grow the gaming industry from their first title Rayman. There short eloquent presence in gaming has brought some refreshing titles, characters, and moments in gaming that you can’t help be fan. They never leave a console without a memorable title, and take advantage of its features. Case in point, Red Steel 2 is the sequel to one of the Wii’s original hardcore titles. Although it has yet to release on the Wii. Red Steel 2 features some of the best motion control fighting, exploration, and interaction we have seen. It uses the Wii’s new motion plus add-on for the Wiimote. On the PS3 using the “magical wand” you would have more one to one interaction, much more power, and graphical capabilities at your hands. This could be expanded in Red Steel 2. Don’t just port the title as is, have it ready with more content by this time next year, and it will feel like the title never released. I doubt that Red Steel 2 will be as popular on the Wii as it would a PS3 that is surging in public opinion. Red Steel 2 is a great ambassador for Ubisoft motion control prowess on the PS3.
Lost Winds 2

Lost Winds is a whimsical game that is hardcore not by its look, and charm. Rather it is hardcore, because the game draws you in with its depth beyond the charm. The first title was groundbreaking, and part 2 continues that lineage. It’s a great game that anyone can pick up and play. What’s great though is that there are real challenges that after a while make a person have to think about how they navigate the environment. There is a visceral feeling of accomplishment as you solve puzzles, and tackle its platforming elements. The game does so much that seeing a title like this expanded on the PS3 would be incredible. I’d go so far as to say forget porting Lost Winds 2, and just go straight to a Lost Winds 3. Giving the game a new interpretation that screams next generation. It would also serve to be seen in HD on a level that it truly deserves to be experienced.
No More Heroes 2 Desperate Struggle

Now if Red Steel 2 is the ambassador for what can be done with motion control then Suda 51’s No More Heroes 2 is the big Jeffie, aka President of hardcore. Blood, fresh mouth yapping, cool character, varied motion control game styles. No More Heroes 2 was built for the PS3 “magic wand”. Fine I get it this is for the Wii, and it should have its own games while other systems should have theirs. Except that logic is totally wrong when titles like No More Heroes are lost to the platform’s audience. Getting lost in the sauce with all the crap shovel ware. It’s like having a great house, but your property value keeps going down because the neighborhood is sour. The good games don’t benefit, and in the case of No More Heroes 2 a move over to the PS3 would instantly have this game the baddass herald of motion control on the PS3. Get it done!
Soul Calibur: A New Horizon

Fine I know there has not even been a huff of air puffed about a new console Soul Calibur fighter game. Yet is there any reason not to have one in the design stage? Namco is done with Tekken 6, and honestly the magical wand would be right at home for this fighter. Now I’m not sure if there is an insurance policy for wand games, but you will lose weight if a PS3 motion controlled fighter like Soul Calibur was ever to release. In fact I’d liken a new one in the same way The Dreamcast title just stormed gamers in the early part of this century. It would revolutionize the genre to be quite honest. Can you imagine the techniques that can go into a competitive round? Whew that would be awesome. Soul Calibur would be a great natural fit for the PS3 period…
